It has been revealed that in the last three years Senator Sam Dastyari has used the time of Senator Estimates committee hearing to follow China’s line of arguing issues surrounding issues including the South China Sea, adding up to at least 115 questions.
Mr Dastyari tabled and quoted from a December 2013 story from official Chinese newsagency, Xinhua News, in which China expressed “strong dissatisfaction with Australia’s statement over the establishment of the East China Sea Air Defence Identification Zone, urging for proper handling of the sensitive issue.”
In October 2015, Senator Dastyari questioned Mr Varghese on what the Government was planning to do with regard to freedom of navigation exercises in the South China Sea and whether there was advice about Australia sailing within the 12 nautical mile zone.
With Sam Dastyari is still in the Senate, today laws will be introduced today to ban foreign donations to political parties, third parties and associated entities. How will the Labor Party vote? Will they vote for our national security or in the interests of their foreign donors?
